NEW LIFE, THE BIRTH OF FERN

BIRTH SESSION

GEELONG / VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA

My phone was on loud every day and night for weeks. At 7.34am I woke up to check my phone and see that I had missed a text that was sent at 6.42am from Hollie's husband. I have never jumped out of bed quicker in my life. It was a freezing winters morning, but with the most glorious sunrise. Arriving at 8.10am, I quickly realised that I was not going to be spending hours documenting this beautiful labor but only minutes, literally. As I part the bathroom curtains, I wipe my camera lens from the steam and quietly immerse myself into the space.

In the 12 years of being a photographer, I can say that this would have to be the most powerful experience in my entire career. The room was filled with vulnerability, love and anticipation. Two pushes later, Fern arrived into her mother's embrace at 8.30am.
